I use a Verizon MIFI 3g in a rural area that normally gets 3 bars with no assistance. When this device is plugged in the MIFI immediately reports 5 bars and decent speed improvement. I also travel with a T-mobile phone but there's no helping that company when it comes to service during travel. Frequent dropped calls regardless, and no real noticeable bar improvement when plugged in, but that could be the jailbroken iphone's fault. I would not recommend spending more than 100 on the device, as I got it for much less used.
The device is very lightweight which is great for docking in the AC vent but you'd expect something like this that retails over 200 to have a little heft. It's basically just a simple chip inside of a plastic case with antenna I/Os. Regardless, it has suited my needs by increasing 3g data connectivity.
