I have tried a few headsets, but have never been as happy as I have with plantronics products. I have an older plantronics headset that I love, however it did not work with my netbook, as the netbook has a proprietary port for both headphones and microphone in one plug. Rather than spending the money to buy a converter, i got the 648 usb headset. It installed in seconds under windows 7 (64 bit). It started working without any configuration on my part. I use skype and google voice, and I hear the calls crystal clear. I get comments back that I sound great too. The headset is comfortable enough to wear all day, and doesn't mess up your hair. I use the headset for music, phone calls, or anything else. For calls, I give the headset 10/10. For music, they are by no means a DJ headset, but they are meant for gaming/voip, etc.. I use these for skype on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine and use primarily for Skype calling.Installation was easy, just plug it in and it self-installs (for the most part, more later). The headphones sound great and the microphone works very well also. The recipient of the call reports clear sound. The in-line controls are handy for volume control and microphone muting. When muted, the mute button glows red, so you know the status. The volume control is specific to the headset; it doesn't change the master volume of the computer or the volume in the software, it just attenuates the volume from whatever level is already set. Overall it sounds great and works well. There is a button for answering Skype calls, but that doesn't work unless you download and install software from the manufacturer. As you'll note, this Plantronics 648 USB headset was obtained through the Amazon Vine program.Having put this headset through a barrage of tests, I can tell you: they work well. I'm wearing them right now at work and they are doing their job well. The long cord means I can plug this thing into the back of a desktop machine and not be limited in movement. They're lightweight, so not a lot of down pressure on my ears. The behind-the-neck set up means no annoying headband dent across the top of my head. The mic will swing out of the way and is positional (bendable). The fact that they aren't in-ear headphones means I can still hear what's going on around me... a feature made even easier with the in-cord volume control. It was plug and play for me with a Windows Vista machine, Windows 7 laptop, and a Apple OSX Macbook. And if you're wondering: they work great for Battlefield 3.
