5.0 out of 5 stars Cell phones under metal roof, October 15, 2010

We get 5 bar reception at roof level but 1 or none under metal roof. A prior signal receiver purchased elsewhere required very frequent rebooting to work. This YX 610 works perfectly all over the house with NO hassle!!

Purchased from another retailer but was very dissapointed in the performance. Placed antenna on the roof. Regular 800 MHz performance was greatly improved from 40% per YX699 Signal Meter with YX610 off to an 85% with YX610 turned on. The Sprint PCS 1900 MHz band read 100% according to the YX699 signal meter with its own supplied antenna anywhere inside or outside the house. But when I connected it directly to the "on roof antenna" via the provided cable ( not being on the roof myself but rather in the house ) the YX699 signal meter read only 65%. Perhaps there is some loss of gain through the Wi-Ex supplied cable. The signal was not much better according to the YX699 signal meter when it is directly connected to the YX610 (white and orange unit ) about 69%. I found this very confusing. Gain according to my cell phone was from 2-3 bars for up to a full 6 bars (my phone has 6 bars)in the same room as the amplifier. I wanted this unit for my home office and thought it would improve...
